Essential Gas Upgrade Works in the High Street and Gauze Street area of Paisley

Alert message sent 12/06/2019 13:18:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we will shortly be starting our £100,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Gauze Street area of Paisley. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with Renfrewshire Council our project will start on Monday 1 July 2019 and last approximately 18 weeks. We’ll be carrying out the work over three phases to help minimise disruption. Each phase is described below.

Phase one – approximately six weeks
On Monday 1 July we’ll begin working in High Street / Gauze Street, outside Piazza Shopping Centre.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we will be required to temporarily close the bus stops one at a time, sequentially.
To allow us to reinstate the road surface in the areas in which we’ll be digging, High Street / Gauze Street will need to be closed on the eastbound lane, every Sunday, for the first four weeks of this phase.

Phase two – approximately eight weeks
From Monday 12 August, we’ll be working at the junction of Smithhills Street and Gauze Street. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will be required to install two-way and three-way, temporary traffic lights.
In addition, Smithhills Street will be closed at its junction with Gauze Street for approximately three weeks. Local diversions will be signposted.

Phase three – approximately four weeks
From Monday 7 October, we’ll be working in Gauze Street between Smithhills Street and Lawn Street. Most of our work will be taking place in the parking bays and footpath during this phase. However, Lawn Street will need to be closed or partially closed towards the end of this phase for a period of two to three weeks.

These dates are approximate and can be subject to change depending on site conditions.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call project manager Scott McLymont on 07776 162 901 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or Customer Service on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
