Essential Gas Upgrade Works in the Main Street area of Bellshill

Alert message sent 12/06/2019 13:33:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we will shortly be starting our £191,255 project to upgrade the gas network in the Main Street area of Bellshill. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with North Lanarkshire Council our project will start on Monday 1 July 2019 and last approximately 10 weeks. We’ll be carrying out the work over three phases to help minimise disruption.
Each phase is described below.

Phase one - approximately one week
From Monday 1 July, we’ll be working in Main Street between Glebe Street and Hamilton Road. No traffic management will be required for this phase.

Phase two - approximately four weeks
From Sunday 7 July, we’ll be working in Neilson Street, between Hamilton Road and Motherwell Road. We’ll also be working in Hamilton Road’s junction with Neilson Street.
For everyone’s safety, Neilson Street will be temporarily closed. Local access will always be available, and a signed diversion will be in place for motorists.
Due to the position of our gas main, we may need to install temporary traffic lights in the junction of Hamilton Road and Neilson Street, but this will only be in place during weekends if required.
We’ll also be working in Glebe Street and will make accommodations for local events.
Phase three - approximately five weeks
From Monday 5 August, we’ll be working in Motherwell Road, between Neilson Street and Main Street.
We intend to complete this phase without traffic management but may need to use temporary traffic lights at times depending on the position of our gas main.

All the temporary traffic lights we use will be manually controlled during peak times to help minimise inconvenience as much as possible.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call project manager Alistair Allan on 07775 628 684 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or call us on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
